“If you sow a thought you reap an act; If you sow an act you reap a habit; If you sow a habit you reap a character; If you sow a character you reap a destiny.“ – Buddhist Proverb
In Part Two of ‘Change Your Thinking Change Your Life‘, we will take a look at the last two lines of the Buddhist Proverb and we will look at the way our habits form our character and define our destiny.
If You Sow a Habit You Reap a Character
“Habit is either the best of servants or the worst of masters.” - Nathaniel Emmons
Basically, we are the sum total of all of our habits and it is these habits that are the building blocks of our character.
We are our habits. We are what we repeatedly do. We create who we are and what we have each day by the habits we have.
The essence of ‘change your thinking change your life’ is that your behavior mirrors your thoughts. Positive thinking leads to positive actions which done repeatedly, lead to good habits.
Habits are the foundation of a character of substance and the pathway to success. Do you have the discipline to form good habits that will build a strong and worthy character in you? Or, are you at the mercy of your habits? Either way, the choice is yours.
“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.” – Jim Rohn
So, what kind of character are your habits building? Do you procrastinate? Do you keep your promises? Do you take the path of least resistance? Or, do you set goals, make a plan to achieve them and follow through?
You can decide what you will be, do and have in your life by following the ‘change your thinking change your life’ mantra. Will you feel the pain of discipline or the pain of regret?

If You Sow a Character You Reap a Destiny
It is the character you create for yourself that will determine your destiny. We are responsible for what we become.
If we cheat ourselves, by lacking discipline, having bad habits, or by taking short cuts; we are cheating ourselves out of our destiny. You can’t bargain with success. You must change your thinking to change your life.
You need a clear vision of what you want to achieve in life and you need to know exactly the price you will need to pay to have what you want. You must be willing to pay the price for what you want. Your future is in your hands.
Think about someone who has the success you want. What kind of character do they have? Now, think about you. Is your character where it needs to be to get the success you want?
Is the destiny you’re headed for the one you really want?
